BEFORE

The asphalt edge of the road shoulders at the Toronto Pearson International Airport required road mesh reinforcement to reduce ongoing maintenance. The client came to Ecoraster inquiring about permeable soil stabilization techniques for roadway construction that would help ensure stronger, more durable road shoulders, as well as reducing stormwater runoff.

PREPARATION and installation Of GTAA – Toronto Pearson Airport Roadway Paving

Preparation

The soft shoulder and asphalt surfaces were prepped to prepare for the Ecoraster pilot project.

Installation

A gravel-filled Ecoraster E50 grid was installed after the asphalt. As road shoulders are typically smaller surfaces, the installation was extremely efficient.

AFTER

The gravel pavers were installed in this area as a pilot project. With Ecoraster’s alternative to road mesh reinforcement now in place, it is now able to withstand high traffic and reduce wear and tear. The paving is also weather-resistant and able to be plowed with ease in the winter months. Additionally, the paver grid system now provides the first level of infiltration for all stormwater runoff from the road, which directly reduces the environmental impact on roadside vegetation.
